A proposed class action settlement has been submitted to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio in the Cinfed Federal Credit Union Data Breach Litigation.
The lawsuit stems from a September 2023 data breach that affected approximately 58,000 individuals and compromised sensitive information such as names, Social Security numbers, and financial account details.
Plaintiffs, on behalf of the affected individuals, have settled with Cinfed Federal Credit Union, resulting in a $700,000 non-reversionary common fund to compensate the victims. This settlement includes provisions for cash payments, reimbursement for documented monetary losses up to $5,000 per claimant, and improvements to the defendant’s information security practices.
The plaintiffs have filed an unopposed motion for preliminary approval of the settlement, requesting the court authorize it and set deadlines for objections, exclusions, and final approval hearings. If approved, this settlement would relieve the impacted class members and resolve all claims related to the data breach.
