Mason LLP is pleased to announce the successful resolution of a data breach lawsuit with an Ohio health system, Memorial Health System. The settlement, which amounts to $1.75 million, brings closure to a legal dispute that arose following a significant data breach incident.
The lawsuit stemmed from a breach that occurred from July 10, 2021 to August 15, 2022 undetected, resulting in the unauthorized access and exposure of sensitive personal and medical information of numerous patients. Recognizing the importance of protecting individuals’ privacy and taking responsibility for the incident after hard negotiations, the health system has finally agreed to compensate the affected individuals and undertake further measures to fortify data security and privacy protocols.
As part of the settlement, the funds will be allocated to compensate the impacted patients for any harm caused by the data breach. Additionally, the health system will implement enhanced security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. These measures will focus on strengthening data encryption, bolstering network security, and providing comprehensive training to employees on data protection best practices.
